PLAYOFFS
MHSAA State Playoffs began March 1st. Eisenhower drew Dakota as their first game opponent and came away with a 2-0 win. The game was classic playoff hockey, with each period seeming like it was sudden death OT. The game was tied at zero 5 minutes into the 3rd period when Ryan Kalinowski scored a power play goal on a feed from Jacob Schmidt. Zach Halloran added a goal with just under 2 minutes remaining on back-handed pass from Ryan Maloney.
Port Huron Northern, which drew a first game bye, was Eisenhower's second game opponent. The Eagles were victorious against PHN by a score of 3-1. Eric Simurdiak opened up all scoring with a goal about half way through the first period. Jacob Schmidt got the assist. PHN tied the game less than a minute later in the first period. Just over 1 minute into the second period, Jeff Morey scored on a shot from the point. Ryan Maloney and Justin Whitson got the assists. Ryan Maloney added one more goal with just under 5 minutes left in the third period. Justin Whitson and Ryan Chovich assisted on the Maloney goal.
The Regional Championship games was played on Saturday March 6th at Mt Clemens arena. The Lake Orion Dragons were the first to scored, at about the 4 minute mark of the second period. The Eagles were able to tie the game about half way through the third period on a goal by Ryan Maloney. Jeff Morey and Justin Whitson assisted on the goal. The score remain 1-1 at the end of regulation. Just 2:38 into overtime, Jonny Ognjanovski got the game winning goal on a shot from the slot. Kyle McCuen and Eric Macciomei assisted on the winning goal.
Quarterfinals game for the Eagles takes place on Wednesday March 10th against Howell. The game will be played at Flint's Perani Arena. Game time to be announced.
